I’m Laura also known as the Nerd that Draws. I work and live in Gateshead as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. I currently work freelance for a company called The TV Agency where I’m vital part of the creative team supporting the directors in projects by leading the creative process from concept to final output.
I have over 15 years experience in graphic design and illustration, working with clients such as Nike, Always, Voyages, Mammut & ProWorks. My illustrations regularly feature as editorial pieces and I’m currently a lead contributor for a climbing publication called Beta Magazine on a bi-monthly basis. The quality of my work speaks for itself and is why I now work closely with Universal Music creating unique illustrations for music animations.
I’m an avid climber and hiker and have been for many years. I’m lucky enough to mix both my hobbies with my work and I work very closely with climbing centres, organisations & individuals on projects. My climbing clients include Tide Climbing, Climbers against Cancer (CAC), Frome Boulder Rooms, Durham Climbing Centre, Mannut - Griptonite and Beta Magazine Club.
When I’m not working on freelance projects I create my own illustrations, normally based on climbing or hiking as these inspire me. I set up my own Etsy Shop as I wanted to do something with all the work I was creating, from that I have gained clients illustrating and designing merchandise.
When I’m not working I can be found at a local climbing gym. I’ve been climbing for around 5 years both indoors and outdoors.
During lockdown we built our own climbing wall at home so we could train, I can be found in the garden climbing during my lunch break.
Every weekend we go on a family hike, we can be found in Northumberland, The Lake District and Yorkshire exploring Mountains, Waterfalls, Valleys & Ruins.
I’m a huge plant nerd, every inch of space with good light in my house is covered in plants. Fun fact my favourite plants are Calatheas.
